WHAT DOES THE LABEL MEAN?

Foods containing organic ingredients fall into four labeling categories:

  1. 100% Organic - Products that contain 100% organic ingredients
    exclusively. The label must state "certified by" and the name of the certifying agency. Permitted to display the USDA organic seal.

  2. Organic? - Products that contain 95% or more organic ingredients by weight (excluding water and salt) and the label must state "certified by" and the name of the certifying agency. Permitted to display the USDA organic seal.

  3. Made With Organic - Products that contain at least 70% organic
    ingredients qualify for a "Made with Organic" label and can list up to three organic ingredients on the front panel, but are not permitted to use the USDA seal.

  4. Ingredient Panel - Products that contain less than 70% organic
    ingredients are permitted to list the organic items on the ingredient panel only, but are not permitted to display the USDA seal.
